It is that time of the year when we need to come together to support and promote natural and organic products. Over the past few years our diets have become a combination of fast foods, frozen dinners and processed foods which in turn have resulted in obesity, increased heart disease and in general unhealthy individuals around the globe… We are the ones who make the choices, so whether it is for yourself, your loved ones or for a total stranger you need to help us spread the word about changing our bad habits. It is simple and it will change your life!
National Health Food Month started officially in the year 2000 and now runs annually in November all across Canada. It is an organized campaign to promote the use of natural and organic products as an integral part of health and well being.
The CHFA has three objectives for this event:
1. The campaign seeks to increase the awareness of natural and organic products amongst Canadians and to draw attention to the demonstrated benefits of these products.
2. National Health Food Month looks to improve upon the perception that natural health products are safe, effective and have health claims on their labels supported by evidence.
3. National Health Food Month aims to increase the awareness that the natural health product industry has been a regulated one since 2004 and that the organic industry has been one since June 2009.
Last year as the year before, CHFA kicked off the month with a mini-lobby day on Parliament Hill with an organic breakfast in the morning and a press conference in the afternoon. Supplier members from across the country flew in to participate in one-to-one meetings with parliamentarians throughout the day. In addition, throughout the month CHFA invited Members of Parliament (MPs) to choose a charity of their liking to donate Canadian organic apples.
